Boston Trans & Queer Beit Midrash

Nehirim, Keshet, TransTorah and the Boston Combined Jewish Philanthropies are pleased to present TransTorah’s Trans & Queer Beit Midrash, a monthly Jewish learning session for queer, transgender, and ally Jews in the Greater Boston Area. Together we will explore themes surrounding the Jewish calendar through text, art and conversation. This is an opportunity to bring our full fabulous, queer, spiritual, political and gender variant selves into one room. People of all religions and religious backgrounds are encouraged to attend - no previous knowledge necessary.

Mark your calendars for our next meeting:

Tuesday, May 25, 6-9pm: Yiddish theatre & film offer creative & exciting gender-bending possibilities, and subtle expressions of queer desire & relationships. We will explore a history of queerness in Yiddish culture through texts, scenes, conversation, writing, and creating art. Facilitated by Huntington Playwrights Fellow Martha Jane Kaufman.

Past Meetings:

Tuesday, March 23, 6pm: Passover: A Story of Fermentation and Collective Liberation. What do Zapatistas, matzah, kombucha, and the Mishna have to do with each other? Come find out! Consider bringing a fermented treat to share (sauerkraut, yogurt, ginger beer, etc).

Sunday, April 18, 5pm: The Sinai Countdown. Imagine you’re wandering in the middle of a desert, looking for a mountain called Sinai. No maps, no GPS. How are you going to find it? The journey from Passover to Shavuot includes a spiritual roadmap called the Omer. Together, we will explore why and how we count the Omer, the mystical qualities associated with each day, and how we can use these spiritual tools in our lives.

Email Ari Lev Fornari at [email protected] for the exact meeting location in Jamaica Plain, MA.
Drag and Costumes encouraged! Bring a veggie dish to share! The first hour is potluck and shmoozing.
