Nehirim is committed to making its programs as inclusive and accessible as possible, and offers financial aid for all of its weekend programs. Please read through this information before applying for financial aid.

Information and Application Process for Financial Aid

There are 3 easy steps:

1) Fill out our financial aid form below.
2) Wait for a response from us (awards are given out within 2 weeks after the aid deadline).
3) Register for the Retreat: If you are awarded financial aid-enter the discount code we give you on the first page of the online registration form. If you are not awarded financial aid (but applied before the deadline) we will extend to you the Early Bird price (so you don’t miss out!)

Please Note: We are NOT able to accommodate aid requests after you’ve already registered and paid for the program!

More information (please read before applying!):

Financial aid is awarded on a merit/need basis, based on the short application form below. Occasionally, special scholarships will be offered as well, based on geographical location or other donor-specified criteria. We ask that recipients contribute at least $60 toward the cost of the retreat; if this is not possible for you, please let us know.

Unlike in the past, the deadline for all financial aid applications is six weeks before the retreat, and financial aid awards will be given out one month prior to retreat. We have discontinued the “rolling” process of financial aid, and instead will award aid based on the following criteria: your explanation of what you hope to gain from Nehirim, a preference for first-time applicants, our commitment to a diverse retreat population, and a demonstration of financial need. For reasons of confidentiality, only the two Nehirim staff members who administer financial aid will review your application, and of course we never disclose the identities of financial aid recipients.

Financial aid recipients are expected to come for the entire weekend. We do not award scholarships, in any form, for partial attendance. If you cannot attend the entire weekend, we ask that you not apply for aid. We also require that aid recipients fill out an evaluation form at the end of the retreat.

Applications are only accepted online, with the form below. After submitting your form, you will receive an automated response from us indicating that we’ve received your application. If you do not receive this form right away, please contact us immediately at [email protected]. For most retreats, we will notify you of your financial aid award one month prior to the retreat. If this timing poses a problem for you, let us know in your application and we’ll try to accommodate your needs.

Remember, you must still register for the retreat (after you hear back about whether you were awarded aid), and transportation is your responsibility. (Transportation subsidies are not usually available, except in extenuating circumstances – please use the ride board.) If you are awarded aid, we will provide you with a discount code to use in your registration.

Finally, please remember that this financial aid is donated by generous individuals and institutions committed to building an inclusive Jewish community. If you are awarded aid, please take it seriously, and do not cancel or pull a “no-show” – this is disrespectful to our donors and unfair to those who did not receive aid.
