Jewish Spirituality for Gay Men
Is there a “gay spirituality,” and if so, what is it? What roles can feminist gay and bisexual men claim in 21st century Jewish life, at once recognizing male privilege but affirming maleness? How can old archetypes in the Bible, Jewish mystical life, and Jewish folklore — from initiation rites to the kiddush club — be reclaimed and queered today? And what is it about Jewish masculinity that is able to run the gamut from ineffectual nebbish to horny Philip Roth sex fiend to hyper-macho Israeli soldier? In this dinner conversation, sponsored by the Congregation Shaar Zahav Mensch Group, we’ll explore some of these issues together.
